Remember the days of the old school yard?

Not so long ago, I ran a vocal/movement workshop at CUmberland Highscool for some of the students. Well, last week the head Music Teacher from the school (the lovely Mr Ropa) gave me a call asking if I would come and be their Graduation and Awards Ceremony gues speaker.

I was excited + honoured + nervous all at once!
I said yes straight away, but then freaked out a little when I realised I was faced with the task of writing an inspiring speech that wouldn't send everyone to sleep! In the end I actually found the speech writing incredibly natural and easy and I have to say I think it went down really well.

The students seemed to take most of it in (and stayed entertained) and I had quite a few teachers and parents all come up and comment. Besides being the guest speaker, I also had to present some awards to students who excelled in the creative arts department - then Mr Ropa got me to sing some songs with the school band which was SOOO much fun! We did Blondie "Call Me", Stevie Wonder "Signed Sealed Delivered" and Tina Turner "Proud Mary".

It was such a nice experience and really lovely to see so many young kids out there excited about life and what awaits them. Hopefully I can have the opportunity to work with them in some music/vocal workshops sometime next year.

Myself and my favourite teacher!
